Toledo
So I spent some time in Toledo this past weekend, and I have to admit it lived up to its popularity. The city is an hour bus ride out of Madrid , and is truly unique unlike any other. Of course surrounded by a wall, this town offered great views, great buildings and great adventures getting lost.
Just to give you some background on this city, it has been captured by the Muslims , the Jews, the Catholics and some other Christian groups. It was the perfect example of a utopian community for two centuries. All these different religious groups coexisted with each other in this city with their mosques, cathedrals, churches and synagogues. We could have learned from these guys!
The Rio(River) Tajo surrounds the city, and I could not believe the views of this river from up top in the city. The river has cliffs coming into it from the hilly/mountaineous terrain surrounding it. Of course there were some great windy roads along these hills with dangerous 90 degree curves. I saw many moncho motor cyclists and tourist buses ranging along this roads that give great views of the city.
Rumor has it that the great El Greco was somewhere along these roads when he painted his famous painting of Toledo . I will admit the pictures are sub par but hope to get some even better ones when I visit the city again in two weeks!
